Topic: Be At Peace
Scripture: Mark 4:35-41
In the popular hymn, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” Joseph Scriven beautifully captures the reality of a lot of God’s people, writing, “Oh, what peace we often forfeit. Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
Jesus was with his disciples on a boat, crossing over to the other side of town, when a storm arose, with waves beating against the boat and rapidly filling it with water. The disciples were in a state of panic but Jesus was sleeping peacefully. When they finally woke him up, he still wasn’t flustered. With authority, he rebuked the storm, saying, “Peace, be still.” While the disciples were reacting with fear to the chaos around them, Jesus expressed the peace within him and changed the situation.

There is so much chaos in the world. And sometimes, when you least expect it, a storm can suddenly appear. But your peace should not be a function of what is happening around you. The presence of God in your life should keep you from fear and panic, no matter the threat you are facing. If you can be at peace, you will discover the strength to silence the storm. Today, receive God’s peace in your heart.
Prayer: Father, I lay every burden at Your feet. I know You will keep me in perfect peace.
