Topic: Live For God
Scripture: Matthew 10:32-39
Life without purpose is meaningless. To go through the motions, receive all the accolades, amass the wealth, and in the end not know why, is summarised in Ecclesiastes as vanity upon vanity. Sometimes, you can assume a purpose for your life only to realize that your heart is yearning for a deeper meaning, a more fulfilling reason for living. You have a purpose that is greater than just surviving, making a living, and being recognised in society.
When Mary of Bethany broke her alabaster box and poured the precious ointment on the head of Jesus, those around were upset and frustrated. They felt she could have invested more wisely or even given to the poor. The fact that she poured it all on Jesus did not sit well with them because they are used to people living for themselves or for public recognition. Here was a woman pouring her treasure on the Messiah, and it offended them. In our world today, there is an emphasis on living for self and doing whatever feels good to you. But that is not why God created us.
Living for God is the ultimate purpose of man. To use the gifts, resources, and opportunities you have been given for the agenda of God, and to be willing to give your life and reputation for His name’s sake is the greatest achievement of our lives on earth. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, the only thing that truly matters is what you did for Him. I beseech you, therefore, live for God. Let all that you are, and all that you have, be for the fulfilment of His will on earth.
Prayer: Father, my life belongs to You. Let every moment of my life be an expression of Your glory on earth.
