Topic: Carnal Mind vs Spiritual Mind
Scripture: Romans 8:5-14
Biologically speaking, there is no difference between the mind of a child of God and the mind of an atheist. The central nervous system that governs the body is the same for every human. But in practice, these minds are very different simply because the child of God submits his mind to the leading of the Holy Spirit. With that influence, you can pray and fast when the body wants to eat. You can walk in love when the body would have wanted vengeance. You can walk in purity when the body seeks ungodly pleasure.
One major area we see a distinction between a carnal mind and a spiritual mind is in decision-making in defining moments. Ruth and Orpah had come to such a moment; to either follow the widowed and childless Naomi to Israel or to return to the familiar surroundings of Moab where their relatives were. Orpah took the option that agreed with the logic of her carnality. She stayed in Moab with her people. Ruth took the seeming illogical yet Spirit-led option to chart a new course and embrace a new life with Naomi. In the end, Ruth’s decision is rewarded as she becomes a part of the lineage of Christ.
The kind of mind at work in you determines the outcome of your life. Those with carnal minds cannot please God and cannot experience His glory on earth. But for those whose minds are led by the Spirit of God, their lives continually reflect the glorious power of God, even in adversity. For everyone who is born again, you have access to the Spirit of God who can shift you from operating with a carnal mind to having a spiritual mind; the mind of Christ. All you need to do is yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, I yield to the leading of Your Spirit. Not my will, but Your will be done.
