Topic: No More Thorns
Scripture: Luke 10:38-42
In the parable of the sower, Jesus talked about seeds that fell among thorns. There would have been a great harvest except that the presence of the thorns choked the seed. The seed is the Word of God. The thorns are the things we worry about; the cares of the world. So, in essence, by worrying, you choke the manifestation of God’s Word in your life.
Martha and Mary had the opportunity and privilege to host Jesus in their home. But unfortunately for Martha, thorns began to creep into her heart. She became worried about all that needed to be done, and she was upset at Mary, who was just focused on Jesus. It looked like her worrying was righteous because it was about hosting Jesus. But it was simply a thorn robbing her of the blessing of the moment.
There is no blessing in worrying or being afraid, even if it is for a godly cause. The blessing of the moment went to Mary because she knew how to focus on Jesus rather than the activity. There is a place for activity, but it must never be at the expense of our communion with Him. Whenever you focus on Jesus, you encounter the peace that will uproot every thorn. Your harvest is here. No more thorns.
Meditation: Are you like Martha, filled with worry and burdened with pressure? Or are you like Mary, who knew how to find peace in His presence? There is grace released by your Father to help you uproot every thorn in your heart so you can see the manifestation of His word.
