Topic: Don’t Lose Momentum
Scripture: Joshua 18:1-6
Joshua, the leader of Israel, had to address a disturbing situation that was going to affect Israel’s ability to receive all that God had for them. They had begun to conquer nations in battle in order to possess the promised land. But after a few victories, they had become complacent. Only five out of twelve tribes had received their inheritance. Yet, somehow, the remaining seven tribes were comfortable just hanging around.
They were operating at less than 50% capacity, and yet they had lost their hunger for the promise. They had settled when they had to be preparing for battle. Joshua had to call them to order. “How long are you going to sit around when there are lands to conquer? Why have you lost your hunger?”
It is so easy to lose momentum when you find comfort in the present. God has so much more in store for His people, but we must have a hunger that goes beyond our present comfort. Persecution is not the only strategy of the enemy. If the enemy can get you to be complacent, he knows he can stop you from advancing and receiving all God has for you. There is a resounding call to God’s elect. Gear up and advance. There are territories to take. There is a charge to keep. There is a God to glorify.
Meditation: What are you hungry for in this second half of the year? Have you settled in your present, or are you ready to pursue all that God has for you?
