Topic: Silence The Storm
Scripture: Mark 4:36-41
In the midst of the storm, the disciples came to Jesus with a question. “Teacher, don’t you care that we are perishing?” They felt the need to ask because while they were in panic mode, Jesus was asleep. The raging waves were filling the boat with water, and at that rate, they were soon going to drown. And yet, their miracle-working Master was asleep. That must have been an annoying sight, and you could sense their frustration from the question they asked him.
There are storms we face, and we may be tempted to ask God the same question: “Don’t you care?” We are looking for a dramatic sign in the heavens, or a spectacular demonstration of power to assure us that God is going to handle it. But God does not want our faith to be built on the spectacular, but rather, confidence in the integrity of God and of His Word. If He has assured you that He is with you always, the presence of a storm should not negate that truth.
Jesus did not apologise for sleeping. He rather rebuked them for their fear and lack of faith. Meaning, they were never at risk. Jesus silenced the wind and waves by declaring, “Peace, be still.” Such power and authority! And yes, he has given you that authority on earth. Instead of going into panic mode and emotional blackmail, step into the authority you have been given and silence the storm. You are loved, and you have the backing of Heaven to overcome every challenge on earth.
Prayer: Father, I know You are always with me. No matter the challenge, I am never alone. Thank You for the authority I have to silence the storm.
