Topic: Do You Trust God?
Scripture Reading: Psalm 16:1-11
How do you know if you have trust in someone? It is by the level of control you are willing to cede to them. You trust a cab driver or a pilot with the responsibility of getting you to your destination without your input or supervision. You trust a chef to prepare a good meal for you without having to monitor what ingredients he’s using. You trust a barber to trim your hair without causing damage to your head. Trust is seen when you give up control.
How then do we demonstrate our trust in God? It is by giving Him total control of our lives in all seasons. It is easier to trust a driver when the journey is smooth or to trust a pilot when there is no turbulence because there is no risk of danger. But when there is a possibility of losing everything, trust is proven.
In writing Psalm 16, David was actually prophesying about Jesus. In order to save us from sin and death, Jesus had to be willing to give up control, to go through a season of pain and humiliation, to be killed, and to go down to hell, trusting that God will not leave him there, but will show him the path of life through resurrection. Jesus understood the difficulty and danger, but he gave up control because He knew the One he trusted. As long as we hold on to our lives, choosing to be in control, we miss out on seeing God’s mighty hand at work in us. But if you trust Him, giving Him control in the midst of fear and confusion, you will experience the power of God.
Prayer: Father, I trust you in every season, no matter the situation.
