Topic: Who Is On Your Throne?
Scripture: 1 Kings 11:1-12
A throne is a place of authority. It is a place of priority where decisions are taken and choices are made. It is a place where we bow in loyalty and obedience. For the majority of Christians who truly serve God, it’s almost impossible to see them bowing down to any graven images or acknowledging them as gods. But idols are not just graven images. Anything that becomes an object of worship, taking your affection, attention, and becoming your priority is an idol. And very often, these idols come in as seemingly harmless desires.
In 1 Kings 3:3, we are told that Solomon loved the Lord. By chapter 11, this same Solomon is building shrines for strange gods. What happened? Solomon loved strange women, and his love for these strange women paved the way for idols to come into his life. By feeding his desire for women, his love for God waned, and idols became enthroned in his life. The shift did not happen in a day. It was a gradual drift by indulging his desires and having less time for God.

We all have desires; it is part of our humanity. But, in order to walk with God, we must consistently place Him above our desires. Anything that competes with God in your life for attention, affection, and reverence is an idol. But God wants us to live consecrated lives, where we separate from anything that seeks to be a god in our lives, and intentionally focus our time, energy, and resources in making God our priority. When God is everything to you, there can be no idol because everything else is meaningless without Him.
Prayer: Father, reign in my heart. I submit to Your will and I place You above every other person or thing in my life.
