Topic: When God Prunes
Scripture: John 15:1-16
God created man to be fruitful. Being fruitful is simply giving expression to the seeds / gifts / abilities that you have been given. It is not a suggestion; we have been commanded and ordained to bear fruit. Jesus said, any branch that doesn’t bear fruit is cut off. We see this being exemplified in the parable of the talents when the unprofitable servant was cast out.
However, there is an interesting consequence to being fruitful. The Father prunes those who are fruitful so they can bear more fruit. Pruning is to selectively cut off parts of a plant in order to encourage specific growth patterns. Excesses and dead weight are cut off so that the plant can have room to grow. It’s true for plants and it’s true for you. God knows how to cut off excesses and dead weight off our lives so we can bear more fruit. Without pruning, the full potential of the plant will not be seen.
Pruning can be painful because certain things you love may have to go. But when they go, God aligns and empowers you for a new level. When Lot separated from Abraham, God came to Abraham to release a blessing for the new phase. If you have been chosen for a divine purpose, don’t fret when certain things or people walk out of your life. The pain of pruning will soon be overshadowed with the joy of increase. When God prunes, He positions you for your next level. It may feel like a cut, but if you can trust the Father, you will see His will unfold in your life.
Prayer: Father, I trust You. Even in the pain of pruning and brokenness, I trust You because it will all work out for my God.
