Topic: What Are You Doing Here?

Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 19:9-18

Elijah, the prophet of God, was in the wilderness feeling neglected, persecuted, and depressed. It looked like one of those tough seasons we go through in our walk with God. Except that this season was not initiated by God. Elijah stepped into a season based on faulty reasoning, not divine revelation.

Not every wilderness season is of God. Elijah was led by fear, frustration, and depression. That explains God’s question to him, “What are you doing here?” The pain and anguish he was going through was unnecessary because he paid attention to the wrong things and he did not seek clarity of God’s will in that moment.

Is your current season a product of God’s Word to you, or have you led yourself into unnecessary pain? Like the popular hymn says, “Oh what peace we often forfeit. Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”

Prayer: Father, flood my understanding with light so that I can walk in Your plan and purpose for my life.
