Topic: Use The Authority Given To You
Scripture: Acts 16:16-20
One of the definitions of authority is the ability to enforce obedience. Authority gives you the power to ensure that everything within your given jurisdiction conforms to the stated standard. It is not passive. It must be intentionally used, and it must be directed specifically at whatever is out of line. Without exercising authority, there will be no dominion. And without dominion, you cannot be an effective witness of Christ Jesus.
Paul was preaching in the city of Phillipi along with Silas and other brethren. In the course of their mission, they came across this girl with the spirit of divination, and for many days, she followed them, saying, “These are servants of the Most High God . . .” It was so distracting that one day Paul got fed up and cast out the evil spirit. He didn’t complain about the issue, he didn’t try to negotiate with the evil spirit; he just exercised authority, and the nuisance came to an end.
No child of God is permitted to play the victim because we have been given authority over all power of the enemy. Satan and his demons will always attempt to interfere and disrupt the lives of God’s chosen people. And as long as you permit them by your silence, they will continue to misbehave. But just like Paul, you can enforce their obedience to the will of God. Use the authority you have been given, and take dominion over all that God has given you.
Prayer: Father, I acknowledge the authority given to me in Christ Jesus. I take responsibility, and I exercise that authority against the enemy.
