Topic: Trust In God’s Mercy

Scripture: John 8:3-11

The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus, asking if she should be punished according to the law. Their intention was to trap him. They suspected that Jesus would show mercy, so the plan was to accuse him of going against the law. The woman had to be stoned for her sin. But the mercy of God has no weakness, and neither can it be disputed. When God decides to lavish His mercy on you, no accusation can stand. Jesus displayed the mercy of God to the woman in a way that none of the accusers could resist. She was completely free.

David was another man who enjoyed mercy. After he was confronted with the error of his ways with Bathsheba, David had to be punished. But he said, “I will fall into the hand of God, for His mercies are great.” (2 Samuel 24:14) What David did was wrong, but mercy spared him from the judgement he deserved.

Even in the old Testament, the mercy of God could be trusted. How much more in the better covenant sealed by the blood of Christ! It doesn’t matter the accusation or condemnation directed at you, the mercy of God can be trusted to deliver you. Today, by the mercy of God, you can silence every voice of accusation and condemnation against you.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your mercy. Because You are for me, nothing can stand against me.
