Topic: Triggered or Sheltered?
Scripture: Psalm 3:1-8
A trigger is a device or system that provokes a reaction, and for our context, a strong emotional reaction. It can be an event, words, a picture, anything that stirs up emotions. Even though it is a neutral word, being triggered is often used to connote setting off negative emotions and actions such as fear, rejection, suicidal thoughts, addiction, anger, and deep hatred, to name a few.
When Cain saw his brother, Abel, being approved by God while he was rejected, it triggered deep hatred in him, so much that he devised a strategy to kill his brother. The enemy is always looking for opportunities to trigger negative emotions in us that will compromise our faith in God. Certain memories, patterns, hurts, and mistakes create an environment that the enemy will try to use regularly to trigger a person.
But as a child of God, you have a shelter from the triggers of the enemy. When he comes to get a reaction, the Word of God must be your defence. Jesus said, the enemy came but didn’t find any triggers in his life. When Satan wanted to sift Peter, Jesus sheltered Peter by praying for him. There may be episodes in your life that the enemy wants to take advantage of. But God is your shelter. Come with every pain , scar, and disappointment, and let Him shelter you and give you rest. You are loved and you are sheltered from all harm.
Prayer: Father, You are my shelter. In You, I am protected from all triggers of the enemy.
