Topic: The Blessing of Discomfort

Scripture Reading: Joshua 17:14-18

As eaglets grow and reach the age where they need to start flying, which is around 10-12 weeks, the mother eagle begins to make some adjustments. She removes the soft lining of the nest to expose the uncomfortable sticks and thorns at the base. The discomfort of the nest stirs up the potential in the eaglets to fly. Without the discomfort, the eaglets will have no desire to step into a new season, a season of flight.

This is not just a principle for eagles. In our anchor text, we see the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh coming to Joshua. They were uncomfortable with their portion of land, so Joshua gave them permission to expand. The discomfort unveiled their capacity for expansion. The persecution of the early church facilitated the spreading of the Gospel to other regions.

You cannot be ushered into the new when you’re comfortable in the old. A new season requires hunger and a passionate desire. If the nest is becoming uncomfortable, if the soft lining is no more, if it looks like the things/people that used to support you are no longer doing it, then you have received the blessing of discomfort. It’s a new season. It’s time to spread your wings and fly.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for every discomfort that is working in my favour. I receive strength to step into new levels.
