Topic: Spirit, Soul, and Body
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
When Israel came out of Egypt and were on their way to the promised land, God wanted them to encounter His presence as He spoke to Moses. One of the instructions God gave them as they prepared for His coming was to wash their clothes (Exodus 19:10). God wanted to meet people who were wearing clean clothes. He was interested in the cleanliness of the garments covering their body.
God is Spirit, and we worship Him in Spirit and truth, but God created us with a body and soul, and He is interested in how we handle those areas of our lives, too. In the new covenant, we are born-again by the Holy Spirit, making us offspring of God. But there is a role the soul and body must play as you function on earth. The soul is made of a person’s emotions, intellect, and will. The body is the house through which your soul and spirit operate. Without it, you can’t function on earth.
The Holy Spirit is interested in how your soul operates, how you reason, and the emotions you go through. He also gives wisdom on the health of your body, what to eat, and what to avoid. God is not just interested in the spirit part of you. He is interested in all of you. Allow the voice of God to direct you in all affairs concerning your spirit, your soul, and your body.
Prayer: Father, I receive Your counsel and instruction on how I should honour You with my spirit, soul, and body.
