Topic: Shake Off Every Distraction

Scripture: Acts 28:1-6

After a long journey on the sea that was riddled with adversity, Paul finally arrived at Malta. Malta was not the ultimate destination, but a place of rest and refreshing. It was a place for clarity of vision and strategy. After dealing with a storm that seemed to threaten the life of Paul and over 200 people he was sailing with, Malta represented God’s mercy and faithfulness. It was a timely reminder that God was committed to His word concerning the life and ministry of Paul the Apostle.

And yet, right there in a season of refreshing was a distraction veiled as a snake bite. As Paul gathered sticks, a venomous snake came out of the sticks and bit him. The indigenous people of Malta, knowing how deadly that venom was, expected Paul to fall and die, describing the snake bite as judgement from God. Paul, ignoring their opinions of him, shook off the snake into the fire and continued to bask in the glory of God. When the people saw how he dealt with the distraction, they changed their mind about him and called him a god.

This season may be your Malta. It is not the ultimate destination, but it is a place of refreshing, restoration, and commissioning. But you must recognize the distractions and shake them off. A distraction will try to attack your faith, peace, and fellowship with God and His people. But if you can keep your eyes fixed on the Lord, you will see the fullness of God’s will for this season. Don’t lose your focus. This is your season of refreshing.

Prayer: Father, my eyes are fixed on You. I let go off every distraction, and I embrace the fullness of Your will for me in this season.
