Topic: Peace Over Chaos

Scripture: Matthew 14:23-32

Very often, when people talk about peace, they are referring to an external environment influencing their state of mind. To them, if there is no trouble around them, if things are running smoothly with no contention, if there are no disagreements, then there is peace. But the peace of God is not measured by external happenings. It is a product of what your mind is fixed on.

When Peter took that step of faith out of the boat to walk on water, there was a boisterous wind blowing, and the waves were crashing against the boat. But Peter was focused on walking to Jesus, so he stepped out boldly. Trouble began when he took his eyes off Jesus to focus on the wind and waves. All of a sudden, the man who was filled with faith was now gripped with fear, and he began to sink. His focus determined his reality.

We choose peace or chaos by what we focus on. Like Peter, if you are focused on Jesus, this season of your life will be loaded with testimonies. But if you focus on the contrary wind, you will think you are in a crisis. Choose peace over chaos by making Jesus your focus. If you can find peace within by fixing your eyes on Jesus, your environment will respond in the same manner.

Prayer: Father, my mind is fixed on You. And I receive peace that passes understanding no matter what happens around me.
