Topic: Guard Your Faith
Scripture: 2 Kings 4:18-27
The rich woman of Shunem highlights a level of wisdom that is worth emulating by the people of God. She had already displayed her faith by making room for Elisha in her house so that he would always have a place of rest. But there came a time when her faith was tested. Her son, who was born miraculously after a prophetic word, suddenly fell ill and died. The boy, who was her testimony, her reward from God, was no more. And yet, without making a scene, she made her way to Prophet Elisha.
Her husband did not know what had happened. When he asked, she said, “It is well.” When Gehazi was sent to her, she told him, “It is well.” It was when she got to Elisha that she poured out her heart, revealing the deep pain and anguish she was experiencing. She was not pretending when she spoke to her husband and Gehazi, but she knew she could not afford to weaken her faith by talking to the wrong people. She believed there would be a miracle, so she left the boy in Elisha’s room, shut her ears from any external voice, and went to God’s mouthpiece.
We must protect our faith and our confidence in God from strange voices, from people who will speak against what we believe. If you have a word from God or a testimony and you are facing challenges, take it to your Father. In her time, that meant going to the Prophet, but for you, because you carry the Spirit of God, you can take it to God in prayer, and also share with fellow brethren in the faith and your spiritual head. But by all means, protect your faith from any contrary voice. The right environment will grow your faith and enforce your victory.
Meditation: Is there a word from God that you need to hold dearly in this season? How are you guarding your heart from voices of fear and doubt?
