Topic: Free Indeed

Scripture Reading: John 8:31-36

In our anchor scripture, Jesus is having an interesting conversation with certain Jews. The Jews believed that they were free and not under any bondage because Abraham was their father. Jesus, however, pointed out that even though they were children of Abraham, their lives, actions, and thoughts showed that they were actually slaves to sin. They thought they were free when, in actual fact, they were in bondage.

It is possible to live under an illusion of freedom or independence, and yet your thoughts and actions show that you’re in bondage. In some cases, a person can be free in certain areas but still bound in other areas. A nation can be free politically but still bound financially. And very often, this is what the enemy seeks to do; to keep you bound in a particular area of your life while letting you have an illusion of freedom.

But there is total freedom and liberation available. It is found in Jesus alone. When He sets you free, it is freedom from sin, sickness, emotional trauma, and any bondage that will want to interfere with God’s plan for your life. The only way to be truly free is to find that freedom in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for total freedom in every area of my life through Jesus Christ.
