Topic: Finding The Treasure
Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:19-21
A treasure is an item of great value, such that a person will be willing to make sacrifices or give up their possessions in order to acquire it. There have been many tales of people sailing to distant lands or earnestly digging particular fields because they believed they could find treasure there. If it is not valuable enough for you to search and go after it, then it cannot be described as treasure.
There are different value systems today, which means there are different kinds of treasure depending on who is searching. For some, money is the treasure, hence, they will give up anything for it. For others, it is fame, drugs, recognition, or status; for some, it is political power. The problem with these value systems is that they prioritise items that will eventually decay or lose value. But Jesus pointed us to a particular treasure that does not rust or decay. It has no end, and its value goes beyond the boundaries of time. That treasure is the Kingdom of God.
Every one of us is on a treasure hunt. The question is, what treasure are you really after? Your answer will reveal your value system and the allegiance of your heart. Don’t settle for treasure that will just give temporary satisfaction and later leave you empty. If you set the Kingdom of God as your treasure, you obtain value that will never decay, but will remain true throughout time and all of eternity.
Meditation: What am I searching for? What is the most important thing to me?
