Topic: Favour In A Time Of Famine
Scripture Reading: Genesis 26:1-13
A season of famine connotes shortage of food, lack of resources, and insufficiency. Very often, we would have a common sense approach to these kinds of situations, which would be to move to greener pastures. But when God is the one ordering your steps, a common sense approach can lead you out of God’s will for you.
Isaac was faced with famine in Gerar. The common sense approach was to move to Egypt. His father, Abraham, had made the move to Egypt when he was faced with famine, so we can understand why Isaac would want to repeat the trick. Except that, God told Isaac to remain in the land of Gerar. The divine strategy was opposite to what common sense was saying, but Isaac obeyed the word of the Lord. He sowed in that land, and in spite of famine, he received a hundredfold harvest and became great when everyone else was struggling.
The favour of God is not a product of human reasoning. We obtain favour by obeying God’s instructions and following His strategy for each season of our lives. When faced with any kind of shortage, whether it is of resources, helpers, or strength, know that God has a strategy for that season of your life. It would lead you to favour and establish you as an overcomer.
Prayer: Father, my ears are attentive to Your voice. Show me the strategy that will unlock Your favour.
