Topic: Enemies Of Faith
Scripture: Numbers 11:1-10
Are you surrounded by friends or enemies? There are people we take along on our journey of life because we don’t anticipate the effect they will have on the fulfilment of God’s plan for our lives. They come disguised as friends when, in fact, they are stumbling blocks to your obedience to God. These are not “enemies of progress” who openly dislike you. No, these are enemies of faith who act and talk like friends, but their influence weakens your faith.
When the children of Israel were leaving Egypt, they left with a group of people known as the mixed multitude. They were not Israelites, but they wanted to tag along. However, they became a destructive influence in the lives of the Israelites. They constantly complained about one thing or the other, magnifying the pleasures of Egypt above the promise of God. They belittled the acts of God, and always had a negative perspective. The more the Israelites listened to them, the more they became disobedient to God’s instructions.
Eventually, Israel became hardhearted, ungrateful, and fearful. Apart from Joshua and Caleb, that entire generation did not enter the promised land because of the enemies of faith. Anything that mocks or stands against the counsel of God in your life is an enemy. Be vigilant and give no place to the enemy, to people who always complain and keep you from being joyful. And equally important, be a faith boost to someone, not an enemy of faith.
Meditation: Are you surrounded by friends who build your faith or by enemies who try to pull it down?
