Topic: Embrace Your Divine Identity

Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 9:1-13

When Mephibosheth appeared before David for the first time, this was what he said: “Who am I that you pay attention to a stray dog like me?” (2 Samuel 9:8). Looking at his condition, you can understand why he would say that. He was lame in both feet, poor, living in Lodebar, and the grandson of the former king who tried to kill David. Some would describe it as a sign of humility.

But in truth, there was a covenant that was speaking for Mephibosheth, which made what he said a big lie. The covenant of friendship between Jonathan and David meant that Mephibosheth was royalty. He had access to the king’s favour and was about to step into his royal inheritance. He was not a stray dog. He was a prince. His identity was not determined by his situation but by the covenant that was speaking on his behalf.

There is a greater covenant speaking for you; a covenant that was enacted by the precious blood of Jesus. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances look like, you are a Son of God, a royal priesthood, and a carrier of the power of God. Any identity that is opposite this description is a lie. Don’t let the issues of life give you a false identity. Embrace your true identity, and everything will respond accordingly.

Meditation: Do you carry an identity given by your circumstances, or are you embracing your Divine Identity given to you in Christ Jesus?
