Topic: Don’t Lose Your Joy
Scripture Reading: John 15:9-11
Joy is not the same as happiness or excitement. Those are emotional expressions in response to what your senses perceive. But joy goes beyond the senses. It is a fruit of the Spirit. This means, no matter what is happening around you, if you are in union with God’s Spirit, you will have joy. The absence of joy indicates a faulty connection with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus felt pain and anguish in the events leading to his crucifixion. But even then, we are told that there was joy set before him (Hebrews12:2). Paul was writing to the Philippians from prison, and rather than seek for pity, he told them to rejoice (Philippians 4:4). Nehemiah was addressing a people broken by their iniquity, and he told them, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
The world cannot have joy in chaos, but you can, because the Holy Spirit dwells within you. Will there be events that will evoke sadness and pain? Yes, those are a part of the human experience. But you have another experience happening simultaneously – the God experience. As long as you stay in God’s presence, there will be joy, even in the hardest of times, because joy is a divine strategy for strength. You have the advantage. Rejoice always.
Prayer: Father, in Your presence, I have fullness of joy in every situation.
