Topic: Discern The Season

Scripture: 2 Kings 5:15-27

Every season comes with demands and rewards as determined by God for the establishment of His will. Even in the natural realm, certain seasons demand heavy clothing because the weather will be cold, another season requires light clothing, yet another requires a lot of moisturising to avoid cracked lips and skin. In our walk with God, there are different seasons we go through. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we must discern what is expected of us in each season.

Gehazi did not understand why Elisha refused to take gifts from Naaman. So he devised his own plan to deceive Naaman and take the gifts. In Gehazi’s thinking, it was only proper to receive the gifts after the miracle that took place, so he chased after Naaman and took the gifts. When Elisha confronted him about his deception, he asked Gehazi, “Is it a time to receive . . .?” The sin of Gehazi was not just about the lie he told. He had gone against the instructions of the season. In a season of consecration, he went after gratification.

It was the same God who instructed Israel to take gifts from the Egyptians who also instructed Elisha not to take gifts from Naaman. The seasons were different, so the instructions were also different. As we wrap up one year and prepare for the next, we must be led by the Holy Spirit. Don’t be carried away by the festivities and traditions. Commit your ways, every step, to God. He will direct your paths.

Prayer: Father, lead me by Your Spirit. Teach me what to do, and show me what You have made available to me.
