Topic: Can You Hear His Voice?

Scripture Reading: John 10:25-29

Have you tried having a conversation with a friend in a very noisy place? Imagine being in a marketplace with traders shouting, music blaring, and yet you’re trying to have a business meeting with a colleague. You’re not likely to hear much, and it is not because your ears don’t work, but it’s because there’s too much noise around.

The voice of the Holy Spirit is meant to be a constant feature of our daily lives, giving us counsel and direction. And yet, very often, many Believers struggle to hear His voice or perceive His instructions. It is not a matter of ability because if you are born again, you have all it takes to hear His voice. The struggle is because there is too much noise. This type of noise is not in the ears but in the heart. There is so much noise within that it makes it difficult to recognize the voice of God. The fears, doubts, memories of the past, voices of friends and family, influence from social media, anxiety, pride; these are some of the causes of the noise that blocks out God’s voice.

If you can cut out the noise, you will hear God’s voice. It takes intentional effort to silence the noise in our hearts and minds. But we see the example of Jesus. He would go to a solitary place to pray regularly. In prayer, we find the strength to silence every noise and expose every distraction. Through prayer and meditation, you can overcome any noise so that you can clearly hear His voice.

Prayer: Father, help me to hear Your voice at all times.
