Topic: Building On A Firm Foundation
Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:24-27
If someone plans to build a 2-storey building and is using plywood and sand for his foundation, we would all agree that the building is doomed to collapse. We can confidently say that, because the foundation is made of weak material. A lot of people want to have great lives, but they are building on weak material: they are building on culture, advice from friends, an article they saw on the internet, etc. When the storms of life come, it will collapse.
Saul, as the first king of Israel, was positioned for great things. But he chose to build his reign on public approval rather than obedience to God. When he was faced with storms, he collapsed under pressure. He lost the great blessing God had set before him.
The Word of God is the firm foundation that can withstand all the storms of life. It can withstand oppression, sickness, depression, shame, and any kind of trouble. That is the only foundation that will last; all other foundations will pass away. You must decide, every day, to build your life on the Word of God. That is the only way to overcome every storm life will throw at you.
Prayer: Father, I build my life on Your Word. You are my firm foundation.
