Topic: Be Diligent As You Wait
Scripture: Genesis 39:20-23
After being unjustly sold into slavery by his own brothers, Joseph found favour in Potiphar’s house, only to be falsely accused and thrown into prison. This was not a minor setback; it was a devastating blow, a deeper descent into darkness after a glimpse of light. Yet, even within the confines of that cold, Egyptian dungeon, the Scripture notes a consistent theme: “the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love” (Genesis 39:21). This isn’t a mere theological statement; it’s a profound declaration that Joseph was not abandoned, even in the most despairing of circumstances.
What characterized Joseph’s waiting in prison was not despair but diligence. He didn’t wallow in self-pity or curse his fate. Instead, he continued to serve. The prison keeper recognized his integrity and appointed him to oversee all the prisoners. Joseph interpreted dreams for the chief butler and baker, demonstrating his faithfulness and God-given wisdom even when his own dreams seemed miles away. This active waiting is crucial: Joseph didn’t just endure the prison; he engaged with it, allowing God to use him even when he couldn’t figure out the plan. His prison experience wasn’t a wasted period but a training ground for the immense responsibilities that lay ahead.
Joseph’s commitment to serve was used by God to orchestrate his breakthrough moment before Pharoah. Waiting on God is not passive idleness or the absence of activity. It is an active posture of trust, anticipation, and surrender. Within your diligence lies the key that will unlock your next level in God. May the Spirit of God within you empower you for the area of service that will usher in your new season.
Prayer: Father, as I wait for the fulfilment of Your Word, I yield myself to service, trusting in Your perfect plan for my life.
